History of the breed
The Golden Retriever is a dog of controversial origins . One of the theories relating to it is that he is a descendant of Caucasian Shepherds acquired in 1858 by Lord Tweedmouth. Another story is that we crossed a Water Spaniel with a Wavy Coated, keeping from each litter only the golden-coated puppies. Another legend has it that the Golden Retriever was born from a cross between a Water Spaniel and a Bloodhound.
It was in 1909 that the breed appeared for the first time in a dog show. It was registered in England in 1913 before being recognized there in 1931 as a pure breed . France imported the first individuals in 1925. Breeding did not take off until the end of the World War, however. Since the 1990s, this is a very popular breed.

Education

Obedient |
In the case of the Golden Retriever puppy, we never talk about training. Indeed, this race of great sensitivity must be educated through more encouragement than reprimands. His stubborn and independent character might resurface if he feels compelled to do something against his will. Tact and patience will therefore be the assets of a good teacher. He continually seeks to please and satisfy his owner . Finally, it is important to ensure early socialization .

Among the most common risks, he also has some predisposition to cancer , hip dysplasia or even cataracts in his old years.

It has a thick undercoat. The Golden Retriever’s moult is regular , but it becomes more pronounced in the spring. At this season, the amount of hair lost is significant.
It has a self-cleaning bristle that must be brushed daily to prevent knots from forming. A bath every 2 or 3 months is enough for him .
As with all breeds, his nails should be clipped regularly , about once or twice a month if he does not wear them down naturally. It is always important to seek advice from a veterinarian or groomer, as the dog’s nails contain blood vessels. Cutting too far will cause bleeding.
Brushing your teeth is just as important in order to preserve them. This treatment eliminates the accumulation of tartar and the proliferation of bacteria. The Golden Retriever is a breed that can be prone to ear infections. His ears should therefore be checked weekly and wiped with cotton soaked in a neutral pH ear cleaner.
