The Belgian Griffon is a sturdy little companion dog, with an elegant build and appearance, displaying a characteristic look and whose silhouette is inscribed in a square. He is part of the family of small Belgian dogs with his close cousins the Griffon Bruxellois and the Petit Brabançon. The Belgian Griffon is distinguished from the first by its color (black or black and tan) and from the second by its slightly longer coat.

Physical features

His hair: mid-length (not too long so as not to harm the characteristic silhouette of the breed), hard, shiny, slightly wavy. Cover coat lined with an undercoat.
Its color: one- tone black or two-tone black and tan. The tan markings are pure and located on the forelegs (from the foot to the wrist), the hind legs (from the foot to the hock), on the chest, cheeks, chin, above the eyes, in the ears, under the tail and around of the anus.
His head: characteristic of the breed, quite large compared to the body, rounded, with a well rounded forehead and a very pronounced stop. Covered with a harsh, tousled hair and fuller above the eyes, cheeks and chin. The muzzle is very short.
His ears: small, set high, set wide apart, semi erect and falling forward.
His eyes: dark brown, large, well rounded, set wide apart, edged in black without showing the white of the eyeball.
His body: writable in a square, with the withers slightly extended, the back straight and strong, the loins short and muscular, the croup wide and flat, the chest wide and well let down, the belly slightly raised.
Its tail: attached and carried high, with the end pointing towards the back without curling.
