History of the breed
As its name suggests, the Berger de Picardie has Picardy origins , but it would have benefited from the contributions of several sheepdogs from different origins in Europe. He descended from Celtic dogs that arrived in the North of France in the 4th century BC Traces of the Shepherd of Picardy, or its ancestor very like, back to the Middle Ages.
A very old breed, it was exhibited for the first time in 1863. Somewhat abandoned, the breed will be relaunched after World War II. The dog lover Robert Montenot founded the Friends of Berger Picard club in the mid-1950s, when a new breed standard was approved by the Société Centrale Canine in 1964. In the meantime, the FCI will have recognized him definitively in June 1955.

Physical features
His coat: mid-length (5 to 6 cm over the entire body), hard in texture, associated with a fine and tight undercoat.
Its color: fawn, brindle fawn, charred fawn, possibly with dark gray markings and without white spot.
His head: proportionate to the size, finely cut, but without appearing pointed. Well lined with hairs, especially on the eyebrows, which must not, however, hide the eyes, as well as mustaches and goatees. The skull is slightly arched and the stop is not very visible.
Its ears: medium, set high, wide at their attachment and carried straight at all times, with slightly rounded tips.
His eyes: medium in size, oval in shape and dark in color (hazelnut to dark).
His body: gives an impression of solidity, but without exaggeration. The back is straight, the kidney solid, the croup slightly inclined, the ribs arching upwards, then flattening down to the sternum.
Its tail: reaches the point of the hock and slightly curved at its end at rest. Whip more spicy, but not above the back, in action. As full of hair as the rest of the body.
