The Fox Terrier is a small dog full of energy and strength, despite its small size. It is harmoniously constructed and gives off an impression of great pride, especially when it is in a standing position. Its stature then evokes that of the hunting horse. There are 2 varieties of Fox Terrier: the smooth-haired one (FCI standard N ° 12) and the wire-haired one (FCI standard N ° 169). The latter is recognizable by the beard and mustache worn by the dog.

History of the breed
Of British origin , the Fox Terrier is one of the oldest breeds of terriers . She probably descends from the same type of dog that fathered the Manchester Terrier and the Bull Terrier. The first breed standard was drawn up in 1876. If the Fox Terrier is today an excellent show and companion dog, it is mainly for hunting that the breed was developed.
As its name suggests, its specialty is to flush out the fox hiding in its burrow in order to allow hunters to continue their task. It is also good at dislodging rodents and all kinds of pests. The qualities sought after for the job are therefore speed, small size, determination and courage. The smooth-haired Fox Terrier breed was definitively recognized by the FCI in June 1993, while the wire-haired one in May 1955.

Physical features
His coat: smooth, straight, flat and dense in the smooth-haired Fox Terrier. Hard and dense in the wire-haired Fox Terrier , with a length of 2 cm on the shoulders and 4 cm on the back, withers, hindquarters and ribs. In the wire-haired variety, always, the texture is rough on the level of the jaws and the limbs.
Its color: predominantly white with tan and / or black markings, in both varieties.
His head: flat skull whose width narrows as one gets closer to the eyes. The stop is very slightly marked, the nose is black and the jaws are endowed with strong musculature.
His ears: V-shaped, small in size, falling forward and against the cheeks.
His eyes: dark in color, rounded in shape, well set in the orbit and displaying an expression of vitality and intelligence.
His body: short, horizontal and solid back. The kidney is powerful, the chest well let down without being broad, the rear ribs slightly arched and the posterior ones of good length.
Its tail: strong, set on high, carried straight and cheerfully, never curled. Was cut short in the past.

The Fox Terrier is a dog bursting with energy and liveliness . Alert, courageous and intelligent , he knows how to show himself to his advantage when he keeps his master’s house. This does not prevent him from being an excellent companion dog , especially with regard to children thanks to his pronounced taste for the game. His understanding with his congeners and other animals depends on the quality of his socialization , because the Fox Terrier is a strong head who likes to gain the upper hand over those around him.
