History of the breed

The race of   Peruvian hairless dog has very ancient origins . Archaeological excavations have, in fact, made it possible to find ceramic objects where dogs resembling the Peruvian Hairless Dog are represented and which belonged to various cultures prior to the Incas , notably the Chancay civilization (between 1200 and 1470 CE).

The Peruvian Hairless Dog breed was definitively recognized by the FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale) on June 30, 1981. Its official FCI standard in force was published on October 8, 2012.

Its body: writable in a square, the height at the withers being equal to the length. The neck is curved, equal in length to that of the head and shaped like a truncated cone. The top line is straight, the withers slightly accentuated, the back straight and well muscled, the loins strong, the croup solid, the chest ample enough but not too much.
Its tail: low set, thick at its root and tapering towards its end. Raised and curved (but not coiled) above the back when the dog is excited.

the   Peruvian Hairless Dog   is an easy to maintain dog . His skin must however be the subject of special attention, which must be examined and cared for regularly.

It can be washed occasionally , about once a month , but be sure to rinse it well and towel dry. Exhibits are washed with Aleppo soap or liquid black soap. Their skin needs to be hydrated with the regular application of suitable cream or vegetable oil. For dogs with hair, one brushing per week is sufficient.

The eyes and ears of the Peruvian Hairless Dog should be examined frequently to make sure there are no signs of infection or debris. Her teeth need to be brushed regularly to eliminate tartar build-up and the proliferation of bacteria. Finally, if they do not wear out naturally, its claws need to be cut. If you are new to this, it is recommended that you seek advice from a veterinarian or groomer.
