History of the breed

Raised for several thousand years by the Arab tribes of the Middle East , the Saluki was used for hunting a wide variety of game, depending on the specific area in which it lived. Many dogs were offered or imported into Europe and a first official European standard was established in the English language in 1923.

The Saluki breed was definitively recognized by the FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale) on April 8, 1966. Its official FCI standard in force was published on October 25, 2000. Today, it is less used as a hunter, but takes takes part in sporting events such as coursing (sight pursuit on a lure).

the   Saluki is a dog full of dignity and intelligence . Very attached to his master and his family, without being too demonstrative, he is much more reserved towards people he does not know. However, he does not have natural skills for guard and defense. Traditionally bred for hunting and racing, the Saluki is above all a pleasant and loving companion , yet independent .

Ease of grooming

Maintenance of   Saluki does not present a big constraint . It simply needs to be provided regularly to preserve the health and well-being of the dog.

It is recommended to brush the dog once or twice a week . Particular attention should be paid to its long silky bangs, especially during shedding where daily brushing becomes necessary. He does not need to take a bath frequently. It can be bathed if necessary, if it is really dirty.

Her teeth need to be brushed regularly to eliminate tartar build-up and the proliferation of bacteria. If they do not wear out naturally, its claws need to be cut. If you are new to this, it is recommended that you seek advice from a veterinarian or groomer.
