History of the breed

The English Springer is one of the oldest breeds of spaniel. Originally from the British Isles , he was selected very early on for his qualities as a hunter; the English Springer was first intended for game usually attributed to the greyhound and the hawk. He then gradually proved his versatility, expanding his activities to find, survey and retrieve game. In 1902, the physical characteristics of the breed were listed in a first standard of the Sporting Spaniel Society. The English Springer will then be recognized by the English Kennel Club and the American Kennel Club in 1910. Its definitive recognition by the FCI dates from December 29, 1954.

The English Springer is a dog animated by a great joie de vivre and a remarkable gentleness . Always inclined to play, he is appreciated by children , with whom he is calm and benevolent. Rather docile for a hunting dog, he is a pleasant companion who does not hesitate to show his affection to his master and his family. He is neither fearful nor aggressive, but he is not an uncompromising guardian. It is especially as a pet and as a hunting animal that he finds success. A versatile hunter , he is able to work on a variety of land and water game.
