History of the breed

Canine breed of German origin , the   Pudelpointer was developed from the 19th century from cross between Poodles and various Pointers. In Germany, farms are closely monitored to reduce the risk of hip dysplasia and epilepsy, which are among the main defects encountered in this dog.

The Pudelpointer breed was definitively recognized by the FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale) on November 13, 1959. Its official FCI standard in force was published on November 9, 2004.

Physical features

His hair: mid-length, hard, tight, well applied against the body, of rather coarse texture. The outer coat is associated with a thick undercoat. Presence of beard and a forelock on the head.
Its color: unicolour brown, dead leaf or black. Small white marks are tolerated.
His head: harmoniously proportioned, both in length and width as compared to the whole body. The skull is flat and broad, the stop marked, the nose well pigmented, the nostrils well open, the muzzle not narrow or pointed, the lips joined, the jaws powerful and articulated in scissors.
His ears: set high, medium in size, rather thin, covered with a thick hair and slightly rounded ends.
His eyes: large, dark amber in color, displaying a look full of liveliness.
Its body: writable in a rectangle, the length of the body being greater than the height of the withers (ratio of 10 to 9). The neck is moderately high, well muscled and without dewlap, the top line straight, the withers marked, the back short and firm, the loins well muscled, the rump moderately long, a little sloping and powerfully muscled, the chest ample and well lowered, the ribs well sprung but not barrel-shaped, the bottom line slightly raised towards the rear and the belly tucked in.
Its tail: in the continuity of the croup, straight, not carried vertically, covered with a hair without fringe.
