The breed of the Small Dutch Waterfowl Hunting Dog was somewhat lost sight of until the 1940s , when a passionate Dutch breeder decided to relaunch it; Baroness Van Hardenbroek van Ammerstol has brought litters to Tommy , a dog carefully selected by her after long research. Its breeding thus served as the basis for the restart of this variety.
