History of the breed
The origins of the Grand Griffon Vendéen are very old. This dog is one of the descendants of the Grand Vendéen , himself heir to the king’s clerks and white dogs. The Grand Griffon Vendéen has also benefited from the contributions of the Gris de Saint-Louis and the Griffon de Bresse.

Physical features
His coat: long but not excessively, rough in texture, bushy in some dogs. The top coat is associated with a supplied undercoat. The eyebrows are pronounced, but without covering the eyes.
Its color: two-tone. Charcoal sand with or without white spotting, fawn with white spotting with or without black coat, black and tan or black with white spotting.
His head: rather long. The skull is rounded, not too wide between the ears, the stop slightly marked, the nose strong and black, even brown for the white and orange coats. The nostrils are wide open, the muzzle strong and straight, the lips drooping and covered with mustaches, the jaws articulated in scissors.
His ears: not very thick, not very wide, flexible, with oval ends, set low (below the line of the eyes).
His eyes: large, dark in color and very lively.
Her body: elegant and harmoniously proportioned. The back is solid and straight, the loins well muscled, the chest of medium width and reaching down to the elbows, the ribs moderately rounded and long, the belly somewhat turned up.
