History of the breed
The exact origins of the Curly Coated Retriever are unclear, especially with regard to the crosses that gave rise to the breed. According to one of the theories put forward, it was by crossing a Newfoundland and an Irish Water Dog that it would have been developed in England. Either way, it is one of the oldest varieties of retrievers , with the earliest breeding likely dating back to the 18th century. He quickly flaunted his ease with the hunt as a game-reporter dog. The Curly Coated Retriever breed was definitively recognized by the FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale) on December 10, 1954.

Physical features
His hair: curly (small curls), tight and short on the whole body. There is no undercoat in this dog.
Its color: unicolour liver brown or black.
His head: wedge-shaped when seen in profile, well proportioned to the whole body. The length of the skull is equal to that of the muzzle. The stop is only slightly marked. The color of the nose corresponds to that of the coat. Jaws strong and scissor bite.
His ears: of medium high attachment (slightly above the line of the eyes), small in size and covered with small curls.
His eyes: large, oval in shape, obliquely arranged, the same color as the dress (or in a similar shade).
His body: slightly longer than the height at the withers and therefore writable in a rectangle. The topline is well supported and horizontal and the chest well let down.
Its tail: inscribed in the extension of the top line, carried straight at the level of the latter when the dog is in action.
