The Norwegian Puffin Dog is a small dog, of the Spitz type, longer than high (height at the withers) and therefore writable in a rectangle. The construction of the Norwegian Puffin gives an impression of flexibility and lightness reinforced by its gait, characterized by an external rotary movement of the forelimbs and a slightly tight movement of the hindquarters. Its 6-toed front legs and overall build allow the dog to move with ease on steep rocky coasts.

History of the breed
The Norwegian Puffin Dog is a very old breed . The first documents attesting to its use in hunting by the populations of the Norwegian coasts date back 4 centuries . Gradually, hunting techniques have evolved and the use of the Norwegian Puffin in this area has diminished. Nowadays, puffin hunting, a protected species, is subject to very strict regulations, but the Norwegian Puffin Dog continues to be bred by enthusiasts who strive to perpetuate the breed. In some remote places of the country, such as the island of Vaeroy, traditional hunting with this dog continued until the recent past.
Physical features
His hair: dense, hard in texture, short on the head and front of the limbs, longer and thicker on the neck, back of the thighs and tail. The outer coat is combined with a softer textured undercoat, the whole giving the dog good protection against the cold and bad weather.
Its color: two-tone red to fawn with white.
Its head: moderately large, clearly drawn and wedge-shaped. The skull is a little rounded, the superciliary arches rather prominent and the stop pronounced, but not in an exaggerated way. The muzzle is wedge-shaped and moderately long, the muzzle slightly convex, the jaws articulated in scissors or even pincers. Slight lower prognathism and the absence of premolars are tolerated.
His ears: triangular in shape like most Spitz-type dogs, of medium size, wide at their attachment, erect and lively, with movements of folding and folding backwards or at right angles.
His eyes: yellowish brown in color, the pupil being surrounded by a dark halo, arranged slightly at an angle.
His body: The top line is straight, the back strong, the rump moderately sloping, the chest long, moderately wide and well let down, the belly slightly raised.
Its tail: moderately high set, of moderate length, covered with a rather abundant hair but without plume, carried in a ring on the back or hanging down.
