The Airedale Terrier is an alert, energetic and active dog . Animated by a great vivacity and a remarkable intelligence , he likes to work and to please his master . Obedience, however, is not his forte. Alert, confident and courageous, he is a good watchdog , but his favorite field is hunting. At home, he is quite sociable and friendly with children . Faithful to the reputation of the Terriers, it has difficulty getting along with its congeners.

Education

Clever
Obedient

For this kind of active dog and not particularly docile , it is advisable to apply a firm education and a thorough socialization . However, it is not a question of establishing a balance of power, but rather of showing the dog the limits not to cross and preventing him from contesting your status as a master. Well educated and socialized, the Airedale Terrier becomes a pleasant companion, both on the hunt and at home.

Living conditions

Suitable for apartment living
Good for new masters
Love it hot
Love the cold

The Airedale Terrier is basically a country dog , but it can just as well cope with apartment living if it takes full advantage of its outings and exercises. It would suit an active, athletic, available person who knows how to educate him adequately to channel his ardor and reduce his dominant character. Otherwise, he would risk always trying to gain the upper hand and be belligerent towards his fellows, especially those of the same sex.

Health

Solid
Ease of gaining weight

The Airedale Terrier is a particularly resistant dog. If he does not fear harsh climatic conditions, he is however one of the breeds likely to suffer from hip and elbow dysplasia , as well as stomach torsion .
