History of the breed
The Basset Artésien-Normand was born in the 1870s. It is the result of a cross between the Basset de Normandie and the Basset d’Artois , at the time of the first French Bassets. Count Jean-Emmanuel Le Coulteux de Canteleu and Louis Lane are considered to be the creators of this breed. The first focused on the creation of a utility dog with straight forelegs (the Artois) while the second favored a dog with twisted forelegs (the Normand). The name Basset Artesian-Norman will come about at the beginning of the 20th century.
25 years after the creation of the first standard (1898), the breed was made official in 1924. Gradually, the breed was introduced in England and the United States. The Fédération Cynologique Internationale recognizes the Basset Artésien-Normand on October 29, 1963.

Ease of grooming |
The Basset Artesien-Normand simply needs regular (weekly) brushing to take care of his short coat. Indeed, its maintenance is otherwise very easy. Sometimes a bath is required when their coat is covered in mud or after a heavy downpour.
The moulting period should increase the frequency of brushing (once a day) even if the Basset does not lose more hair than that. In addition, frequent monitoring of the ears should be done to reduce the risk of ear infections. As with many dogs, his eyes also need to be cleaned from time to time.
