History of the breed

The Chihuahua is a very old dog breed . It is considered the smallest in the world . Its name simply comes from the largest state in the Republic of Mexico : the state of Chihuahua . He would have lived there in total freedom before being domesticated by the natives at the time of the Toltecs. At the end of the 19th ^century, this dog is exported in bulk to the United States and Europe follows.

Physical features

Its coat : can be of 2 varieties. The first short-haired is lying on the body, shiny and soft. The second long-haired remains fine, silky, smooth or slightly wavy.
Its color : all possible colors and shades.
Its head : rounded in the shape of an apple with a short muzzle.
His ears : erect, large and wide apart. They become thinner towards the end.
His eyes : little protruding with a strong expression. They remain large, very rounded and dark in color.
His body : compact and well structured, withers little marked, short and firm back, large chest and well let down.
Its tail : set high, of moderate length and wide at the base. It thins towards the end.

Education

The Chihuahua does not present any difficulty in its education even if it is preferable like any small dog with a strong character to do it from an early age. It is about being firm and it will quickly be clean, faithful and unobtrusive. Very stubborn , he could then be uncontrollable and do as he pleases. Maintenance and hygiene

The Chihuahua is a naturally clean little dog that requires little maintenance. It loses small amounts of hair throughout the year, but a little more during shedding in spring and fall.

The long-haired Chihuahua will require more maintenance to avoid knots.

Whether long or short haired, his coat is odorless. It should be brushed regularly – grooming only takes a few minutes each week – since as a companion dog it is part of your privacy. For brushing, you can use a rubber glove or a brush with short, natural bristles. For the long-haired Chihuahua, it is necessary to brush it at least 3 times a week to avoid tangles, with a detangling brush.

It should be washed from time to time with warm water and a mild shampoo. The ears and eyes should be checked regularly for the slightest trace of dirt or infection.
