History of the breed

The exact origins of   Cirneco of Etna   are debating. According to some sources, the breed originated in Sicily and the Etna region , while others believed it originated in ancient Egypt and arrived on the Mediterranean island aboard Phoenician ships. In any case, the presence of the Cirneco de l’Etna in Sicily dates from before our era, as evidenced by numerous objects including representations of the breed, including period coins.

Physical features

His hair: fine, short and well laid against the body. Short on the head, ears and limbs.
Its color: either unicolour fawn, more or less intense or diluted, or two-tone fawn with white more or less extended on the head, the chest, the feet and the tip of the tail.
His head: long and narrow. The shape of the skull tends towards the oval and its upper axes are almost parallel to those of the muzzle. The superciliary arches are only very slightly protruding and the frontal furrow not very marked, as is the occipital protuberance. The stop is well accentuated. The nose is rather rectangular and voluminous, brown (light to dark) or flesh, depending on the color. The muzzle is pointed, the lips not thick and tight, the jaws well developed and articulated in scissors. The cheeks are flat.
Its ears: triangular in shape, ending in a narrow point, high set, quite close to each other, erect and facing forward.
His eyes: small, ocher to amber, passing through gray. Showing a gentle expression.
His body: writable in a square, slightly elongated conformation. The neck has the shape of a truncated cone, the top line straight and descending elegantly towards the croup. The withers are rather narrow and harmoniously attached to the neck, the back straight and muscular, but not too much. The kidney is firm, the croup quite flat, dry and robust, the ribs well sprung, the chest rather narrow, the belly dry and raised.
Its tail: thick from its root to its end, low set, carried in a saber when the dog is at rest and raised in a trumpet when it is active.
