History of the breed
The race of the Grand Gascon Saintongeois was developed in the mid 19th century. The one whose paternity is attributed, Count Joseph de Carayon-Latour, then sought to put forward the dogs of Saintonge by crossing them with Bleus de Gascogne. The Petit Gascon Saintongeois variety was born a century later.

the Grand Gascon Saintongeois is a hunter who excels in various fields , with a predilection for shooting hunting and, to a lesser extent, hunting with hounds. The Grand Gascon Saintongeois is as comfortable with large game as with small and fast animals such as the hare (more reserved for the Petit Gascon Saintongeois). He can evolve alone as a bloodhound, thanks to his powerful flair, or in a pack. The gregarious spirit is very developed in this dog. Outside of the hunt, he displays a calm and affectionate temperament .

the Grand Gascon Saintongeois is a very easy to maintain dog .
It is recommended to brush the dog once a week to keep its skin and coat clean. Its pads, eyes, ears and teeth should be examined systematically after outings and hunting in order to detect any debris, parasites or lesions.
His teeth need to be brushed frequently to remove tartar build-up and the proliferation of bacteria. Finally, if they do not wear out naturally, its claws need to be cut. If you are new to this, it is recommended that you seek advice from a veterinarian or groomer.
