History of the breed
The standard of the Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen and that of the Grand Griffon basset Vendéen were confused for a long time, until Mr. Abel Dezamy established the distinction . Representatives of this breed won the first Coupe de France on rabbit.
The Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen breed was definitively recognized by the FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale) on May 4, 1976. Its official FCI standard in force was published on January 9, 1999.

Physical features
Its coat: hard in texture, never silky or woolly. Of medium length.
Its color: charcoal sand with or without white variegation, black with white variegation or markings (fawn or sand), fawn with white variegation with or without black coat.
His head: slightly rounded, neither too long nor too wide, well defined. The occipital protuberance is developed, the stop marked, the nose black (even brown for dogs with white and orange coats), the nostrils open, the muzzle elongated, straight and square at its end, the jaws articulated in scissors.
