The standard of the Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen and that of the Grand Griffon basset Vendéen were confused for a long time, until Mr. Abel Dezamy established the distinction . Representatives of this breed won the first Coupe de France on rabbit.

The Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen breed was definitively recognized by the FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale) on May 4, 1976. Its official FCI standard in force was published on January 9, 1999.

Physical features

Its coat: hard in texture, never silky or woolly. Of medium length.
