the Savoy Shepherd has all the qualities of the mountain dog. He is resistant, enduring and vigilant . Used for driving and herding herds, it gets along very well with animals and is attentive to the slightest suspicious approach when watching over its owner’s property. Very close to him and his family, the Savoy Shepherd knows how to show affection and is rather playful . Intelligent and docile , he is a pleasant companion while being a work partner who loves to be useful.

the Savoy Shepherd is relatively easy to train because of his intelligence , his taste for work and his obedient character. the Savoy Shepherd is a rustic dog, robust, resistant and perfectly adapted to the mountain environment. With a double coat, it enjoys fairly good protection against the cold and bad weather, but remains sensitive to extreme weather conditions like any other dog. It is therefore important to provide it with good shelter. There is no predisposition to a particular pathology or anomaly.

Ease of grooming |
The Savoy Shepherd is an easy to maintain dog. Little information exists on its moult, but we can deduce from its double coat and its mountain origin that it is likely to experience 2 annual moults in spring and autumn .
It is recommended to brush the dog once or twice a week . During the moults, brushing is to be done more frequently to get rid of dead hairs. The inside of his ears, skin, dress, eyes and pads should be examined regularly to prevent deposits of debris and parasites, sources of infection.
His teeth need to be brushed to prevent tartar build-up and the proliferation of bacteria. If they do not wear out naturally, her nails should be cut so that they are not too long. If you are new to this, it is recommended that you seek advice from a veterinarian.

Potential to play |
The Savoy Shepherd is an active dog by nature and must therefore be able to benefit from frequent and long daily outings . He needs to feel like he’s on a mission, whether it’s herding a herd or guarding the house. Inactivity and boredom are difficult for him to live with. He will appreciate accompanying his owner on hikes and can also participate in dog sports.
