The 17th edition of La Grande Odyssée Savoie Mont Blanc will start next weekend

It’s this Saturday that will be given the kickoff of the 17th edition of the Great LGO. For 12 days, the best mushers and their sled dogs, spread over 5 races, will cross the magnificent Savoyard towns and alpine landscapes. Health situation requires, the event will take place behind closed doors, but will be widely publicized.

Great appointment mushing since 2005, La Grande LGO is preparing for its 17th edition from 9 to 20 January. After a successful 2020 version, the competition will bring together 60 mushers and their 600 harness dogs from several European countries: Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Germany, in addition to France.

This very high-level sled dog race will be an opportunity for participants, viewers and Internet users to discover 20 superb villages, towns and municipalities in Savoie Mont Blanc.

An edition without an audience, but that we can follow from a distance

If the event is held behind closed doors , due to the Covid-19 pandemic , the public will be able to follow it in full thanks to constant digital and media coverage : live and streaming departures, reports video of the stages, real-time GPS tracking, exclusive behind-the-scenes videos of the organization …

At the same time, more than one channel will devote meetings to it, such as France 3 Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes , TF1 , TMC , BFMTV , BFM Lyon , Ushuaïa TV , LCI.fr , France Bleu Pays-de-Savoie , 8 Mont Blanc , etc. All will be accessible on this dedicated page of the La Grande Odyssée Savoie Mont Blanc website.

The races and the mushers lists

  • The main race La Grande Odyssée Savoie Mont Blanc (January 9 to 20): 24 teams, 10 stages, a total of nearly 400 km covered with 12,000 m of elevation gain. The list of mushers participating in this race HERE.
  • The Flexadin Trophy (January 10 to 12): 3 stages, 100 km, 7 teams. The list of mushers taking part in the Flexadin Trophy HERE.
  • The France Bleu Trophy (January 13 to 14): 2 stages, 62 km, 10 teams. The official list of participants HERE.
  • The Eukanuba Trophy (January 16 to 17): 2 stages, 6 9km, 10 teams. The mushers who will be on the starting line HERE.
  • The Aesio Trophy (January 18 to 20): 2 stages including a bivouac, 104 km, 9 teams. The list of mushers HERE.

Rémy Coste , quadruple champion and crowned in 2020, Iker Ozkoidi (Spain) and Sylvia Ulrich (German) are among the big favorites in the Open category (pool of 12 dogs). Just like Cindy Duport , victorious last year in the Limited category (pool of 8 dogs).
