Trapped by the floods, a dog that was desperately clinging to metal bars was rescued by the military in Mexico. The video showing the scene moved many people via social media, both in the country and elsewhere in the world.
The passage of Hurricane Eta was particularly devastating in Mexico , more specifically in the states of Chiapas and Tabasco in the southeast of the country. Thousands of homes were destroyed and an estimated 80,000 people were affected by the tropical storm.
The torrential rains have overflowed more than 10 rivers in the state of Tabasco alone. Heavy flooding followed, trapping many residents, but also animals . Alongside the firefighters , the armed forces have also been deployed to rescue people in distress.
A video shows soldiers coming to the aid not of a human, but of a dog who was struggling to keep his head above water, as reported by India Today .
The sequence in question was posted this Sunday, November 15 on Twitter by Rex Chapman , former American basketball player of the NBA (American professional basketball championship). It shows a team of Mexican Navy rescuers plying the flooded streets aboard a light craft.
The sailors see a dog, a Labrador Retriever with a sandy coat, hanging on as best it can to a metal structure fixed to a wall, the water reaching up to its stomach. The soldiers slowly approach the canine, then one of them begins to stroke it . Confident , the quadruped understands that they are there to save him . He also takes the initiative himself to put a first leg, then the second on the edge of the boat to try to climb there.
The member of the Mexican Navy helps him board and the dog immediately begins to wag its tail , finally feeling safe after struggling to survive.
