History of the breed

The Small Swiss Hound was created from the Swiss Hound by selecting small dogs and crossing them. The aim was to develop a slower race and therefore more adapted to the regime of hunting grounds came into effect at the beginning of the 20th century in Switzerland. The breed club was established on June 1, 1905.

Physical features

His coat : short, well laid and can be smooth in texture (finer on the head and ears), hard (supple and with weakly developed beard) or double (dense topcoat and undercoat).
Its color : white and black with tan markings (Bernese), black with tan markings (Jura), blue with black plates (Lucernois), white with red-orange plates (Switzerland).

The skull is slightly rounded, the occipital protuberance not very prominent, the stop moderately marked, the nose dark, the nostrils widely open, the muzzle strong, long and moderately high, the jaws robust and articulated in scissors, the cheeks little marked.
Its ears : attached below and behind, narrow at their roots, elegantly pleated, drooping close to the head, not very thick and covered with fine hair.
His eyes : dark in color, slightly oval and displaying a kind gaze.
Its body : writable in a rectangle, the length being greater than the height at the withers. The neck is of moderate length and well muscled, the top line harmonious and slightly sloping, the back straight and firm, the loins wide and powerful, the croup slightly sloping towards the base of the tail, the chest wide and well let down, the ribs long and moderately arched, the underline slightly raised and the sides moderately full.
Its tail : of medium length, tapering towards its end, set on and carried low, raised when the dog is in action, but without being curved over the back.
