The Mexican Hairless Dog is a primitive type dog, small to medium in size, since there are 3: standard, intermediate and miniature. Slender, elegant, and moderate in every aspect, the Mexican Hairless Dog’s body is well-proportioned and its lines are well defined. Its general appearance gives off an impression of speed and force, but without apparent coarseness. There are 2 varieties: the one totally devoid of hair (or having very little) and the one with a light coat. The first is also differentiated from the other by its incomplete dentition.

History of the breed

The race of   Mexican hairless dog   is very old, primitive , Man having had very little influence on its evolution. During the pre-Hispanic era, the natives of Mexico ate the flesh , especially during ritual ceremonies, because they believed that this dog was related to Xolotl , a deity whose name is at the origin of his own. For this reason, the breed’s numbers have declined dramatically, until it comes to the brink of extinction. Since 1940, the Federacion Canofila Mexicana (Mexican dog federation has strived to ensure its sustainability.

The breed of the Mexican Hairless Dog was definitively recognized by the FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale) on November 6, 1961. Its official FCI standard in force was published on October 8, 2012.

Ease of grooming

the   Mexican hairless dog   requires little maintenance , most of which focuses on the skin, which must receive regular care.

It is recommended to wash the dog regularly , but at a reasonable frequency. We generally recommend a bath every 2 months , or even monthly, with a suitable shampoo. Her skin should also be moisturized regularly with a cream rather than an oily solution.

His teeth need to be brushed frequently to remove tartar build-up and the proliferation of bacteria. If they do not wear out naturally, its claws need to be cut. If you are new to this, it is recommended that you seek advice from a veterinarian or groomer.
