History of the breed
The Schiller Hound is descended from the hunting dogs of the prestigious Kaflas kennel . It probably draws its origins in the south of Germany and would have benefited from contributions of Swiss and British hunting dogs , in particular Harriers. It was in 1886, during the first dog show in Sweden, that the 2 dogs on which the development of the breed was based were presented. It was about a brother and a sister named Tamburini and Ralla I. Their owner was a farmer by the name of Per Schiller and who therefore gave them his surname. The Schiller’s Hound breed was recognized by the Swedish Kennel Club in 1907 .
Physical features
His hair: rough in texture, short but not to excess, lying flat against the body. It is shorter and smoother on the head, ears and front sides of the limbs, but longer under the tail and hind thighs.
Its color: fawn, with a well-defined black coat on the back and sides of the neck, as well as on the upper face of the tail.
Its head: elongated, triangular in shape when seen from the front and in profile, but the muzzle does not end in a point. The skull is very slightly domed, the stop well marked, the black nose, the nostrils well developed, the long muzzle, the straight muzzle, the tight lips, the jaws articulated in scissors and the dry cheeks.
His ears: flexible, hanging, set high and able to stand up slightly when the dog is awake or in action.
His eyes: dark brown in color with a lively gaze.
Its body: slightly longer than high at the withers (writable in a rectangle). The neck is long, strong and blends well into the shoulders, the withers well marked, the back solid and straight, the loins muscular and slightly arched, the croup moderately oblique, the chest long and well let down, the ribs slightly protruding and the belly a little raised.
Its tail: placed in the continuity of the line of the back, carried straight or in a light saber, thick at its base and tapering towards its end.

The Schiller Hound is a dog with a balanced temperament and whose main qualities make him a very popular hunting dog in his native Sweden. The great liveliness and its ability to give voice are some of the characteristic traits of Schiller’s Hound. The latter is used mainly for hare and fox hunting, but never for deer. He works alone with his master, to whom he is very attached , and never in packs or in pairs. Despite this preference for hunting alone, he is anything but an asocial dog; he gets along rather well with his fellows and children.

Brushed once or twice a week , the Schiller’s Hound thus preserves its cleanliness, its beautiful appearance and its health. The inside of his ears, hair and pads should be examined after outings to prevent any deposit of debris or parasites that could cause infection.
His teeth need to be brushed frequently to remove tartar build-up and the proliferation of bacteria. Finally, if they do not wear out naturally, its claws need to be cut. If you are new to this, it is recommended that you seek advice from a veterinarian or groomer.
