History of the breed
Of Swedish origin, the Hamilton Hound is said to have been obtained from crosses between various varieties of European Hounds , mainly from Germany, Switzerland and Great Britain. The first known representatives of the breed were presented at a dog show in Sweden in 1886 . It was a couple belonging to Count Adolf Patrick Hamilton (1852 – 1910) composed of a male named Pang and a female called Stella . It is from these 2 dogs that the breed will be developed and it is therefore in reference to their owner that it will be called Hamilton Hound from 1921 , that is to say 11 years after his death.

The Hamilton Hound is a dog described as friendly and with a balanced temperament . He is affectionate towards his master, to whom he is very attached. He does not have the reputation of being an excellent keeper, but the area where he particularly shines is clearly hunting . The Hamilton Hound is, in fact, a determined hunter , enduring and with a fine flair. He knows how to give voice and prefers to hunt alone, in the company of his master, rather than within a pack. Hares and foxes are his favorite game.

The Hamilton Hound is characterized by a light shedding , which, with its short coat, makes it easy to care for .
It is recommended to brush the dog once a week . This will be used to remove dead hair, maintain the cleanliness of her dress and skin and activate the production of protective sebum.
Its hair, ears, eyes and pads should be examined after each outing in the wild to detect and remove any debris or external parasites. His teeth need to be brushed frequently to remove tartar build-up and the proliferation of bacteria. Finally, if they do not wear out naturally, its claws need to be cut. If you are new to this, it is recommended that you seek advice from a veterinarian or groomer.
