History of the breed

The development of the breed of   Bosnian Hound   dates from the late 19th century, from local dogs crossed with a dog of Italian origin hunting. Contributions of Short-haired Istrian Hounds and Saint Hubert’s Dogs also seem to have taken place.

Physical features

His hair: long, hard in texture, shaggy, tousled. The outer coat is lined with an abundant undercoat.
Its color: bicolor or tricolor. Form yellow, yellow-red, earth-gray or blackish. With or without white markings on the head, under the throat and neck, on the forechest, the lower parts of the legs and at the end of the tail.
Its head: rather elongated (length between 20 and 25 cm), moderately wide and tapering towards the nose when viewed from above. The muzzle, strong, long and high, is longer than the skull. The superciliary arches are well pronounced, the frontal furrow moderately developed, the stop gently sloping and the occipital protuberance pronounced. The nose is broad, the nostrils well developed (black or dark brown in color), the lips tight and rather thick, the jaws strong and articulated like scissors.
His ears: set on moderately high, of medium length, rather broad, hanging, thick and tapering towards the tip.
His eyes: oval in shape, chestnut color, large and displaying a look full of intelligence and cheerfulness.
His body: of solid and harmonious construction. The neck is muscular, oblique from top to bottom, with the attachment well demarcated from the head. The topline slopes gently down to the rump, which is slightly sloping and wide. The withers are moderately extended, the back broad and muscular, the lumbar region short and well muscled, the chest long and moderately broad, the belly rather raised.
Its tail: thick at its set, becoming thinner towards its end, carried as a scimitar (slightly curved upwards), well covered with hair.
