Other name: Pug
The Pug is a fairly popular dog in Europe. It is very appreciated by families or even single people, who do not necessarily need to take it out very often for it to be happy. He is gentle and attentive to his master, with whom he spends the vast majority of his days. He is calm and playful. However, his education is not the easiest. It often takes patience.

History of the breed
If the development of the breed took place mainly in Great Britain , the deeper origins of the Pug are located in China. He then came to Holland in the 17th century with the merchants of the Dutch East India Company. The accession to the throne of William III favored the introduction of the breed in England. The Pug No doubt owes its name to the Italian actor Carlo Antonio Bertinazzi (1710-1783), perhaps because of his black mask which evokes those worn by the artist during his performances.
The original valid breed standard was published on March 26, 2009.

Love strangers |
The Carlin is a real concentrate of sweetness . Extremely attached to his master , he can also be very friendly with strangers , which makes him a very pleasant companion dog, but especially not a good guardian . It is especially his jovial temperament that is sought after, especially by children with whom he gets along perfectly. He even has that clown side that keeps the whole family entertained , just like his snores and purrs. The Pug can also be stubborn at times. He enjoys the company and can’t stand being alone.

Love the cold |
The Pug is an indoor dog . It is not built to withstand difficult weather conditions (extreme heat, extreme cold, bad weather …). Living in an apartment suits him perfectly and so does family life. The breed can be suitable for any type of master, whether experienced or not. What does he aspire to? To a calm, restful life , next to his master. He only needs to go out for his needs and stretch his legs from time to time.

Ease of gaining weight |
The Pug tolerates heat poorly . In addition, he may face breathing difficulties because of his flattened muzzle . The Pug is especially prone to eye conditions due to the sensitivity of his eyes: redness and inflammation can easily occur if they are not cleaned regularly. In females, problems during childbirth are quite common.

Ease of grooming |
The Pug is not a particularly difficult dog to care for. It simply asks to be brushed regularly, especially during the moult. His hair, skin and eyes must be clean and cared for to avoid disease.
It is recommended to brush the dog weekly using a simple carder (hand carding comb, formed of a board lined with curved steel tips). Brushing becomes daily during the moulting period. The Pug can take a bath if it has become very dirty, but it should not be bathed too frequently. After a bath, the folds of the face, foci of infections, must be dried properly.
The eyes should be cleaned with physiological serum . The folds under the nose and the eyes are also to be cleaned . You should also not hesitate to check the condition of your ears from time to time. Cutting your fingernails is also recommended. If you are new to this, it is best to seek advice from a veterinarian. Finally, brushing your teeth regularly eliminates the build-up of tartar and the proliferation of bacteria.

Food
The Pug needs a diet adapted to its energy expenditure, which is often not very important. Therefore, his diet is composed of high quality kibble , which will bring together all the vitamins and nutrients essential for the good health of this canine. Its food should be divided into 2 meals per day . To avoid any risk of obesity to which the Pug may be subject, it is important to give it the appropriate proportions.
