History of the breed

The Bichon Havanais is one of the 4 breeds of bichon, along with the Maltese, the Bolognese and the curly-haired one. If it bears the name of the capital of Cuba, it is mainly because it has been implemented by Italian and Spanish sailors in the early 18th century. The Havanese is a breed originating in the Mediterranean, more precisely on the side of the Spanish and Italian coasts, the breed was definitively recognized by the FCI in September 1963.

Ease of grooming

The Havanese is subject to only one moult per year , during which it loses moreover relatively little hair. Its maintenance must be regular because of the length of its top coat , but it is far from unpleasant, because its coat is soft and easy to handle.

Brushing the Havanese is daily in order to maintain the cleanliness of his long dress . The main thing is to ensure the shine of the hair , the good health of the skin and to avoid the formation of knots. A grooming session may be necessary from time to time, but it is not recommended to cut your hair. It is advisable to brush the teeth of the Havanese regularly, because the tartar tends to be deposited.
