History of the breed

The Wire-haired Slovakian Pointer   descended from the hunting dogs of the former Soviet Union. It is the result of crosses between the German Wirehaired Pointer, the Weimaraner and the Czech Bearded. The breeders who developed the breed were looking for the qualities of endurance and versatility to make them a reliable and efficient hunting dog.

The wire-haired Slovakian Pointer breed was definitively recognized by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) on February 17, 1982, as well as by the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association. The official FCI standard in force for the Wire-haired Slovakian Pointer was published on January 6, 1995.

Ease of grooming

the   Wire-haired Slovakian pointer usually experiences an annual molt during the summer season. He loses his undercoat there. Its maintenance remains simple and without major constraint , consisting of regular brushing.

It is recommended to brush the dog once or twice a week to ensure the cleanliness of its coat and skin. Brushing becomes more frequent during the moult to get rid of its dead hair. His ears should be inspected and cleaned after outings to prevent deposits of dirt and debris.

Her teeth need to be brushed regularly to eliminate tartar build-up and the proliferation of bacteria. If they do not wear out naturally, its claws need to be cut. If you are new to this, it is recommended that you seek advice from a veterinarian.
