Other names: Deutsche Bracke, German Hound
The German Brachet is little known outside the German borders. Yet he turns out to be an excellent hunter and a good companion dog. Admittedly, he is hardly docile, but he wants to be gentle and affectionate with his master, his family and the children. It must be able to benefit from optimal conditions to flourish: large spaces. It is not recommended for sedentary or elderly people, because they could not satisfy their need for outings. He has a very robust health and does not require any particular maintenance.

History of the breed
The breed of the German Brachet was obtained by the fusion, towards the end of the 19th century, of the Brachet of Westphalia with various varieties of Steinbracken . The Deutschen Bracken Club was, in fact, created in 1886, bringing together all the Brachets of northwestern Germany. Outside of its region of origin and Germany, the German Brachet remains uncommon today . It continues to be used primarily as a hunting dog. The race of Brachet Allemand was definitively recognized by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) on January 28, 1964.

Although kind and attached to his master, the German Brachet is not the easiest to educate . Obedience is not his strong point. This implies that he must receive an early and firm education from an early age. His master must know how to combine firmness and softness to get the best out of it. Emphasis should be placed on his socialization and recall , especially if this dog is intended for hunting parties. He will have to learn all the basic rules to become a top hunter.
