History of the breed
The development of the breed of the Hound of Hygen began in the late 19th century. Paternity is attributed to HF Hygen , a Norwegian breeder who also gave him his name. It is by crossing different varieties of Swiss, German and Scandinavian hounds that he succeeded in obtaining a resistant and enduring hunting dog. Little is known about the Hygen’s Hound outside of Norway.

The Hygen’s Hound remains subject to moderate shedding , with similar hair loss. Its maintenance is therefore not very restrictive and consists of basic care.
It is recommended to brush the dog once a week , inspect the inside of his ears, hair and pads after outings, and trim his nails when they get too long. His teeth need to be brushed frequently in order to eliminate the build-up of tartar and the proliferation of bacteria.
