History of the breed

the   Irish Water Dog descends from Persian dogs that arrived in Ireland via the Iberian Peninsula without much certainty. His ancestors had specialized in waterfowl hunting at the start of the 17th century. The Irish Water Dog breed became particularly popular from the second half of the 19th century. The Irish Water Dog Club was founded in 1890. The breed was definitively recognized by the FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale) on December 28, 1954.

the   Irish Water Dog sheds very little hair . Its maintenance is simple ; it mainly consists of combing and brushing it regularly, as well as taking care of its claws and the inside of its ears.
