Other name: American Pit Bull Terrier
The Pitbull is a dog whose character is often controversial. Assimilated (wrongly) to Molossoids, he sports a body with strong musculature and a very lively air. In France, the Pitbull is often described as a non-LOF version of the American Staffordshire Terrier, but the breed is unrecognized and rather related to a dog with a mollosoid appearance. The Pitbull is actually an almost perfect dog for families with children, only if it has been adopted very early. With a good education, his aggressiveness will be erased and he will then present qualities of gentleness, calm and loyalty. It does not present any disease and is rather easy to maintain. A very good choice even if each outing in public must be accompanied by a muzzle and a leash.

History of the breed
The Pitbull unfortunately knows through its history a reputation which does not need any more to make. A predatory dog who is attracted to the smell of blood. A simple summary? Not only. At its origin, Pitbull appears at the end of the 18th century and early 19th century. He was placed in the arenas to fight the bulls, thus shaping his legend. In 1835, when fighting was banned in Great Britain, the Pitbull breed became more specific with the crossing of Bulldog with terriers, which were faster, livelier and lighter.
In reality, the Pitbull is in a way an American Staffordshire Terrier which is not registered in the LOF because it is unrecognized. He therefore lives in total hiding on French territory. Since 1999, it has been considered dangerous. It is therefore part of the number 1 category of dangerous dogs that it is forbidden to buy, sell, give or import into France.

Far from his image of a dangerous dog, the Pitbull is actually a very delicate, gentle canine with remarkable intelligence . It blends in very well with a familiar setting with a caring master and children. They should not be afraid of a dog who will be very happy to play with them. Obviously, for these characteristics of calm and gentleness to develop, the Pitbull must have been adopted very early. Thus, he will never develop the slightest aggression, except perhaps with a few congeners, like many dogs.

Ease of grooming |
The Pitbull does not require any special attention compared to its congeners. It requires little grooming. A short, hard and shiny dress is enough to say that the maintenance of the Pitbull is minimalist .
Weekly brushing is more than enough for this dog who loses little hair. A rubber brush will suffice to remove dead hairs. Check their skin regularly for any skin conditions. As for washing, the Pitbull is satisfied with an occasional bath.
It is advisable to check the condition of the Pitbull’s eyes as well as his teeth . Do not hesitate to brush it off if tartar settles on it. His ears also deserve regular attention to make sure there are no traces of dirt or any infection. Finally, if they do not wear out naturally, his nails need to be cut. If you are new to this, it is recommended that you seek advice from a veterinarian.

The Pitbull loves the great outdoors . In summer, it is important to avoid sunburn. And we must not forget that his fur coat is not sufficiently thick to withstand the biting cold. The length of a walk should be adjusted according to the season , but take place every day. In general, a long daily walk of a good hour, games and exercises are necessary for this breed of dog.
