About ten responders, including firefighters, police officers and agents of the city’s technical services, joined forces to rescue a dog in distress near the Calais Canal. The animal had found itself trapped in an old pipe.
Thanks to a large mobilization, a dog stuck in a disused duct was able to find the open air, reported Nord Littoral this Thursday, August 5.
This rescue, which lasted a good 2 hours, took place the day before in Calais (62). On the morning of Wednesday August 4, police were on patrol near the Calais Canal when they saw a Shar-Pei or passed Shar-Pei in a delicate situation.
The canine in question was on the opposite bank, Quai de la Gendarmerie . He was stuck in an old pipe leading to the stream. The dog had probably fallen into the canal, before being able to get out of the water and hide in the conduit. The police officers then informed the firefighters and the city’s technical services.
The operation began around 9:30 a.m. The firefighters deployed a ladder, which municipal service workers used to descend to the level of the quadruped. All in the presence of the police, who remained on the scene.

The dog saved, then entrusted to a local association
One of the agents of the Calais technical services had the good idea to offer sausages to attract the dog and facilitate its recovery. The ploy worked perfectly; the man was able to get the animal out of the pipeline before handing it over to his colleagues on the bank.

The Calaisis Animal Protection League then took over. The association took charge of the dog while waiting to identify its owners, in particular by checking for the possible presence of a chip.
