Firefighters rescue a dog that fell from 60 meters in the middle of the forest

Specialized rescuers and police intervened this Sunday afternoon to rescue a dog that fell into a throat. The animal could be saved, but it had to be taken to a veterinary clinic because it had a leg injury.

The circumstances in which Achilles fell from several tens of meters have not been specified, but everything suggests that this dog accompanied his master on a hike in Letchworth Park yesterday, Sunday, May 30.

As reported by WHAM on Monday, May 31, local police were informed of the incident in this New York state park (the American equivalent of a national park, but on a statewide scale) and immediately dispatched officers to the scene. The police were joined by a specialized rescue team, the Genesee High Angle Rope Rescue Team , which could be compared to the French GRIMP (reconnaissance and intervention groups in perilous environments).

Responders had to act quickly to save the injured canine. The latter, a 3-year-old black-dressed Labrador Retriever, had slipped nearly 60 meters below and it was impossible to come to his aid without the necessary equipment and know-how.

The injured dog, but alive

Sergeant Phil Nesbitt and Officer James Marzec quickly assessed the situation and took action. After a long rappelling down the steep wall of the gorge, they managed to retrieve Achilles and return him to its owner.

He then took him to the veterinary emergency room, as the dog suffered from a broken hind leg and other minor injuries. However, he should recover by receiving adequate care.

Many Internet users commented on the rescue reported by the New York State Park Police Facebook page, and thanked the rescuers for the work done.
