History of the breed

Queen Elizabeth II of England contributed to the popularity of this breed by breeding several specimens. She fell in love after being offered 2, named Dookie and Jane , during her childhood. It was in 1934 that the English Kennel Club officially established the distinction between the Welsh Corgi Pembroke and the Cardigan.

The breed was definitively recognized by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) on November 13, 1963.

Physical features

His coat: medium length, straight, fairly hard in texture and associated with a dense undercoat.
Its color: red, charred fawn, fawn, black and tan. With or without white markings on limbs, chest and neck
His head: reminiscent of a fox. The skull is quite broad and flat, the stop moderately marked, the nose black, the muzzle tapering off, the jaws strong and articulated in scissors.
Its ears: medium in size, smaller than those of the Welsh Corgi Cardigan, erect, slightly rounded.

The Welsh Corgi Pembroke is a dog whose maintenance is not particularly tedious . Brushed regularly, especially during the moulting period, it thus preserves the beauty of its hair. Adding fish oil or brewer’s yeast to her diet can contribute to good health and appearance of her coat.
