History of the breed
Native to the Scottish Highlands, the Scottish Terrier began to be developed from 1879 through the work of Captain Gordon Murray. 2 years later, the 1st breed standard was developed . The Scottish Terrier Club was founded in 1882. Its physical constitution lends itself perfectly to its primary mission: to dig up foxes, rodents and other small and medium sized game taking refuge underground.
Today the Scottish Terrier is especially appreciated as a show and companion dog, with guardian qualities .

Love the cold |
The Scottish Terrier appreciates life in the country as well as in the city , in a house or an apartment . He is suitable for all kinds of masters, as long as he shows him early enough the limits not to be exceeded and being sufficiently available. Calm and measured, it can bring happiness to a single person or a couple . It supports absences quite well thanks to its independent side.
Be careful, however, at water points such as swimming pools. He is attracted to water, but could drown in it …

Ease of grooming |
The Scottish Terrier is not subject to a major moult and loses little coat . However, her coat requires a lot of maintenance and regular grooming , especially if the dog is called to take part in shows. The budget associated with its maintenance is therefore rather substantial. Just like the time allotted to this task, by the way.
It is recommended to brush the dog at least once a week . It is also advisable to have it groomed regularly by a real professional, because poorly applied care can lead to dermatological problems . The Scottish Terrier must be shaved twice a year.
