The Silky Terrier is a small dog, compact in constitution, with fine lines but not without substance, particularly recognizable by its long silky and straight hair, hence its name. The gaits of the Silky Terrier are characterized by free and frank movements, with a good impulse of the hind limbs and an appreciable flexibility of the hocks and stifles.

History of the breed

the   Silky terrier   descended from the Australian Terrier and the Yorkshire Terrier . The breed was developed from the first half of the 19th century on the basis of a range achieved after mating with a female terrier haired blue stiff, originally from Tasmania, and breed male Dandy Dinmont Terrier. It was a Briton living in Sydney, Australia, who had the idea. The first standard of the Silky Terrier was established in 1900.

The breed was definitively recognized by the FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale) on October 3, 1962. Its official FCI standard in force was published on October 8, 2012.

Ease of grooming

the   Silky Terrier is a dog with little odor, if at all, and shedding very little hair, but it requires a lot of maintenance to keep its coat looking groomed.

It is recommended that the dog be brushed daily so that his stiff, silky and shiny coat looks its best. He can take a bath every month.

Her teeth need to be brushed regularly to eliminate tartar build-up and the proliferation of bacteria. If they do not wear out naturally, its claws need to be cut. If you are new to this, it is recommended that you seek advice from a veterinarian or groomer.
