History of the breed
Irish Terrier probably corresponds to the oldest breed of terrier in Ireland . In the past, several coat colors were allowed, including black and tan and brindle. It was not until the end of the 19th century that the color red was put forward , with the gradual elimination of other colors over the selections.
The first club of the breed was founded on March 31, 1879 in Dublin . The breed is the first to be recognized by the English Kennel Club among the 1st group of Irish terriers . It was definitively recognized by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale on January 28, 1955.
