History of the breed
The breed of the American Cocker Spaniel comes from that of the English Cocker Spaniel. Its development began in 1881 with the arrival of a pregnant Cocker Spaniel in the United States. It was from the puppies of his litter that the breed was started. Gradually, it distinguished itself from the English Cocker Spaniel and went from a simple variety to a full breed. The American Cocker was quickly met with success in the United States but was imported into France until 1950 the breed was recognized definitively by the International Kennel Federation on 1 January 1965.
