History of the breed

The American Staffordshire Terrier, or the Amstaff , originated from crossbreeds of dogs originally made for combat. He is not originally from Great Britain, but from Canada . More precisely, it comes from the cross between the Bull-and-Terrier and the Blue Paul Terrier , 2 breeds that no longer exist today. It was not until the early ^20th century that American breeders develop his line mixing of races. They have also made a greater variety with in particular the inevitable Pitbull (used as a fighting dog at the time).

The Amstaff was notably used in the early 19th ^century in traditional in Britain dogfights, before they were banned. In the early 20th ^century, race is about to disappear when put back on center stage in the US, where the American breeders developed along the Pitbulls. He was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1936, but he was then called the Staffordshire Terrier. The term American will not be attributed to him until 1972. They appear in France in 1987.

Physical features
