History of the breed

The Entlebuch Bouvier is the smallest breed among all those of Swiss herdsmen . It owes its name to its region of origin, Entlebuch, which corresponds to a valley stretching over the cantons of Lucerne and Bern in Switzerland. The Entlebuch Bouvier was first described in 1889. It has long been confused with the Appenzell Bouvier . The first dogs of the breed to be exhibited were by Albert Heim in 1913, during the Langenthal dog show.

A first standard was developed in 1927, the year following the creation of the Swiss Bouvier de l’Enlebuch Club. Today it is used more and more as a general-purpose utility dog and as a companion dog . The Entlebuch Bouvier breed was definitively recognized by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) on July 28, 1954.
