History of the breed

the   Grand Bouvier Suisse   is the heir of the great butchers’ masters or the great herdsmen of Swiss tradition . He was once used as a draft dog or to guard herds of cattle . Its recognition as a full-fledged breed took place in 1909, when it was listed in volume 12 of the Swiss Book of Origins (LOS). The Swiss Club of Grand Bouvier Suisse was founded 3 years later. The FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale) published a first standard in 1939. This same FCI recognized the breed of the Grand Bouvier Suisse definitively on August 13, 1954.
