Perhaps the perfect place exists, and it would be on an island of fine sand where there is a very large family of dogs ready to be visited.
Who wouldn’t dream of going to a desert island in the Caribbean ? An island where turquoise blue waters and white sand beaches are enchanting. Providenciales Island in the Caicos Archipelago describes itself as such but offers a bonus: the island has been home to a dog shelter called Potcake Place since 2005, as reported by Dodo . Dogs at the shelter await visitors for seaside walks and warm interactions for possible adoptions .
Attached to the Turks and Caicos Islands which enjoy an excellent reputation, Providenciales Island is home to Grace Bay Beach . Grace Bay Beach is the most famous of the archipelago’s bays and it is on its beaches that the refuge has made its home.
The Potcake Place is home, as its name suggests, the Potcake dogs which is a breed inhabiting the Turks and Caicos archipelago and the Bahamas . Their name was given to them in reference to the way the inhabitants of the islands feed them. These dogs are particularly intelligent , playful and affectionate . They take their traits from their ancestors, the Fox Terriers , German Shepherds and Labrador Retrievers from which they came.
Janes Parker-Rauw moved to the island in 1997. She was initially amazed to see the overwhelming number of Potcake dogs roaming the archipelago and started caring for them. Subsequently, he came up with the idea of opening a shelter to accommodate these dogs and offer them the possibility of adoption.
Potcake Place is a non-profit organization staffed by big-hearted volunteers. The latter offer to house the dogs at home for a few weeks, while the organization takes care of feeding and caring for them .
Noticing the discreet and suspicious character of the dogs, Parker-Rauw decided to establish a system of interactions with the inhabitants of the island and the tourists. After an hour of walking on the beach, the dogs were becoming less and less shy .
