History of the breed

The Picardy Blue Spaniel   constitutes one of the varieties of French Spaniels. It is specific to the Picardy region , in the north of France. It benefited from the contribution of the English Setter over the crossings, to achieve current standards. It was in 1907 that the Club de l’Épagneul Picard et de l’Épagneul Bleu Picard was founded , which marked the differentiation between the 2 breeds. European recognition of the Picardy Blue Spaniel as a full-fledged breed came in 1938. In Canada, it is much more recent, dating from 1995.

The Picardy Blue Spaniel   is a dog that does not require a particularly thorough maintenance . The latter must simply be insured on a regular basis. It is subject to a seasonal shedding phenomenon during which it can lose a lot of hair.

It is recommended to brush the dog on a weekly basis . During the moulting period, brushing becomes more frequent: every other day, or even daily.

Its hair, ears, eyes and pads should be examined after each outing in the wild to detect and remove any debris or external parasites. His teeth need to be brushed frequently to remove tartar build-up and the proliferation of bacteria. Finally, if they do not wear out naturally, its claws need to be cut. If you are new to this, it is recommended that you seek advice from a veterinarian or groomer.
