History of the breed

The Fila de Sao Miguel is, as its name suggests, originally from the island of Saint Miguel , part of the Portuguese archipelago of the Azores. He is said to be descended from a very ancient indigenous breed called the Chien de Terceira, which unfortunately has disappeared. Today, he remains little known outside his native region.

His head: powerful and well proportioned to the whole. The skull is square, broad, with a slightly domed top, the occipital protuberance inconspicuous and the longitudinal axes parallel to those of the muzzle. The lips are well pigmented and firm, the mouth well split, the jaws strong, well developed and articulated in scissors or pincers.
