Other names: Patterdale Terrier, Working Terrier, Westmorland Terrier
The Lakeland Terrier is a hardy, lively, compact and harmoniously built dog. Its appearance evokes that of the Welsh Terrier. It remains smaller than the latter and can even be mistaken for a scaled-down Airedale Terrier when wearing the same coat.

History of the breed
Originally from Lakeland (or Lake District), the lake region located in the north-west of England , the Lakeland Terrier breed was developed from the 19th century with the successive contributions of several terriers, like the Bedlington Terrier, Dandie Dinmont Terrier, Border Terrier, then Fox Terrier and Airedale Terrier. He was appreciated for his enthusiasm and energy during the hunt for pests, but also for foxes. In 1928, the breed entered the English Kennel Club. The FCI recognized it definitively on October 14, 1954.

The Lakeland Terrier is an alert, energetic dog , always enthusiastic about activity and work. Animated by great vivacity and remarkable assurance, he is nonetheless friendly and cheerful . Gifted at hunting, during which he flaunts all his speed and determination, he is also a very good companion and guard dog (especially alarm dog).
Education…
The Lakeland Terrier is a relatively easy dog to train. He likes to please his master and is, moreover, very intelligent. On the other hand, it is recommended to socialize it early enough to avoid aggressive behavior towards other animals, especially smaller ones.
