The Norrbotten Spitz is a small hunting dog, with a typical Spitz appearance, can be inscribed in a rectangle (the height at the withers being less than the length), with well-developed and well-defined musculature. History of the breed
The Norrbotten Spitz would probably descend from the Russo-European Laika once encountered in the North Cape, in present-day Norway. Due to natural selection over the centuries in this particularly harsh region of Scandinavia, only the most resistant individuals have survived. They have long been used by local hunters for their tenacity . Most of the animals hunted thanks to the Norrbotten Spitz, mainly mustelids, were hunted for the resale of their furs and skins: martens, stoats, sable … The fall in the prices of the latter after the Second World War led to a declining interest in the breed, which found itself on the verge of extinction. Nevertheless, breeders from northern Bothnia, Sweden, worked to save the breed , especially from the late 1960s.

Physical features
His hair: double. The undercoat is fine and dense, while the outer coat is harder in texture, short and straight. It is a little longer on the neck, the back of the thighs and the underside of the tail.
Its color: white with large, well-defined red to yellow markings.
His head: strong and well defined. Going thinning towards the muzzle when viewed from above and from the sides. The skull is relatively large, the forehead slightly arched, the top of the skull fairly flat. The stop is obvious, but slightly marked. The nose is black, the lips thin and tight, the cheeks well defined, the jaws well developed and articulated in scissors.
His ears: set high, well erect, medium in size and with slightly rounded ends.
His eyes: medium in size, almond-shaped, obliquely set, shiny, dark brown in color with an expression that is both calm and lively.
His body: well proportioned and muscular. The withers are well defined, the back short, strong and muscular, the loins short and wide, the croup moderately long and broad, the chest of moderate depth and length, the belly slightly raised.
Its tail: set rather high, also carried high and curved.

the Norrbotten Spitz is a dog which combines the natural aptitudes of hunter, being particularly alert and courageous . He is also self -assured and lively , while displaying a gentle and pleasant temperament . When hunting, its preferred game is the great heather cock, also called the capercaillie, but the Norrbotten Spitz can just as easily hunt large game, including elk.

the Norrbotten Spitz has 2 moulting periods per year , mainly in autumn and spring, during which it can lose a lot of hair. However, its maintenance does not present any particular constraints if it is regularly provided.
It is recommended to brush the dog at least once a week . During the moult, brushing becomes daily to remove a maximum of dead hairs and promote the renewal of the coat. It can be washed occasionally , if necessary.
Its hair, ears, eyes and pads should be examined after each outing in the wild to detect and remove any debris or external parasites. His teeth need to be brushed frequently to remove tartar build-up and the proliferation of bacteria. Finally, if they do not wear out naturally, its claws need to be cut.
