History of the breed

the   Hungarian Greyhound   is a dog with very ancient origins. This breed was developed by the ancestors of the Hungarians , the Magyars, who made it their preferred hunting dog . To optimize its qualities, especially in terms of speed, race benefited from inputs from other varieties during the 19th ^century. The Hungarian Greyhound breed was definitively recognized by the FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale) on March 29, 1963. Its official FCI standard in force was published on April 6, 2000.

Physical features

His hair: short, hard in texture and fairly tight. The outer coat can be associated with a thick and abundant undercoat during the cold season.
Its color: all the nuances and combinations found in Greyhounds in general.
His head: wedge-shaped and well proportioned to the whole body. The skull is rather strong and the forehead quite broad. The stop is marked. The truffle is large, well colored and the nostrils well open. The muzzle is strong and elongated, the lips tight and well colored, the jaws powerful and articulated in scissors, the cheeks strong and muscular.
Its ears: thick, set moderately high, folded over the neck, rose-shaped, erect when the dog is awake.
His eyes: medium in size, dark in color, displaying a look full of liveliness and intelligence.
Its body: writable in a rectangle, the length being slightly greater than the height at the withers. The neck is moderately long, elegant and lean. The withers are well developed and muscular, the back broad, straight and firm, the loins wide and well muscled, the croup wide and slightly sloping, the chest well let down, the ribs well sprung and the belly slightly raised.
Its tail: moderately high, thick at its base and tapering towards its end. Slightly curved, drooping when the dog is at rest, raised to the level of the back line when in action.

the   Hungarian Greyhound is a very simple dog to maintain . His short coat only requires basic care, but it must be provided on a regular basis.

It is recommended to brush the dog once or twice a week to keep its coat and skin clean.
